“Thus the elements are in place: a weak legislative body, a
legal system that is both compliant and repressive, a party system in which one
party, whether in opposition or in the majority, is bent upon reconstituting
the existing system so as to permanently favor a ruling class of the wealthy,
the well-connected and the corporate, while leaving the poorer citizens with a
sense of helplessness and political despair, and, at the same time, keeping the
middle classes dangling between fear of unemployment and expectations of
fantastic rewards once the new economy recovers.”

When the system is divided where there is a large unbalanced
formation, where one party benefits more than the other it creates a tremendous
sense of inequality and instability. It
might be beneficial to one side and crippling to the other. Giving false
promises and uncertainty to those who think they will be “Ok” once the government
system stabilizes.
I believe that
in today’s society we are facing exactly what the quote is telling us. Empty promises that are making citizens of
this country very upset and disappointed. A few examples are: Taking the Obama
Care Act completely out, false tax cuts, creating more jobs within the United
States and many more. The president
broke over 64 promises in less than 100 days and this is just the beginning of
the Presidential term. I also believe
that it is very demeaning for middle class citizens to be uncertain about
employment, children’s future education, health care, and secured housing. These are just some examples to explain why I
chose this quote.
